Game Empire

Multiple employees absolutely refuse to sell Pokémon product because, as one employee on staff said, he "doesn't understand it", despite prices listed and product on the shelves and in display cases. 🙃 Absolutely baffling and has happened multiple times. HOWEVER. If you can get the lady who really knows the Pokémon counter (and she can be hard to run into!) then you'll have a great time. Shame she's the only one.

Great store run by great people. I never miss a visit here when I'm in San Diego. They always have different things going on. They have tables where you can just go in and play games. You can meet up with friends and hang out and play games. They have some games available for people to play but most of these are older/less popular games...mostly people bring their own games. There are also a lot of people working on painting their warhammer figures. They have tons of games for sale (which you can buy and go right over to the tables and start playing). I have read reviews of people complaining about their prices...i dont feel it is fair to compare a brick and mortar stores prices to prices you can find on Amazon. Yes, you can generally find cheaper prices online...and then you have to wait for it to be shipped. The people that own this store and the people that work here are GAMERS. They LOVE games. They can help you find games that you will enjoy if you talk to them. Sometimes, being human and all, they might be distracted or doing work related things you dont realize has their attention...but if you just say "hey, can you help me" they will be happy to. You cant do that on Amazon...and shopping on Amazon you also wont have any chance encounters with famous gamers like Wil Wheaten...and you definitely wont meet new gamer friends shopping on Amazon. This is a store to hang out in and have fun. Food isnt allowed, but they do sell some badic snackage and theres an Arbys nearby. They also have a bathroom available for when you are there playing games.

Good table space, good set of terrain for wargaming. The markup on some of the items makes it hard to buy anything on the spot, but in this economy what are you going to do? Pretty limited selection of singles for TCGs, but they seem to have some of the staples. Great selection overall. Never had an issue with staff, very nice bathroom. Lots of food nearby.

This place has nice big tables for playing tabletop and card games. They have a good collection of games both board games and tabletop. They sell supplies, booster packs, and they sell discounted and used board games. I was personally there for the X-Wing tournament which both on the website and the in store posters advertise as being every Sunday. Much to my disappointment it turns out it's actually only the first Sunday of every month. So after sitting around for about a half hour I had to leave empty handed having driven there for nothing. Long story short: well organized and stocked store, friendly staff, poor coordination with whoever is in charge of their X-Wing events.

We were looking for a few games for Christmas presents as well as to add to our own stash and we hit the jackpot! Game Empire was a game wonderland. The staff, especially Cliff, were knowledgeable and friendly. Cliff helped us narrow down to these beauties. We will definitely be back to support this business. Great place to pick up a new (or used) board game!

On vacation here in San Diego and thought I would take my family to this game store and do some looking around. I was super impressed with how much care and attention they gave my 7 yr. old daughter who is getting into the Pokemon game. They were pateint with her, answering her questions and letting her lead them all over the store asking about stuff, and finally giving her some starting Pokemon stuff. Great store. Great staff.
